Evo Mini’s comprises of four key programmes, each targeting young athletes aged 3-6 years of age. Little Ballers (Soccer), Little Ruggers (Rugby), Little Bouncers (Basketball) and Little Splashers (Swimming) are each tailored to providing our youngest players with the core skills needed to succeed in sport, however we have two core beliefs that we take into every session:
Firstly, we believe in something that we call “Play not Push”. It means coaching in a fun, pressure-free environment. We want to give our players a positive introduction to sport as a whole, so they’re more likely to stay healthy and active throughout their lives.
Secondly, we believe that sport can be educational. Coached in the right way it can stimulate imagination and aid early development skills such as learning colours and numbers, following instructions and playing as part of a team.
It’s an approach that has helped us to expand greatly since launching in Qatar in 2007. And like all of the ‘Evo Mini’s', we never stop learning. We’re continually improving and updating our sessions, based on feedback and input from parents as well as our network of sports coaches both locally and overseas.
One of our most recent developments has been the introduction of the ‘Mini's Reward Scheme’ which encourages youngsters to take responsibility for their own learning. Weekly targets are discussed with each team, before players are asked to select one, which they would like to achieve. Targets are based on the following topics: Listening skills, ball control, passing, dribbling, scoring, social skills and game understanding. Stickers are used to track completion of each learning objective, which are in turn used to inform detailed termly reports for each player.
