Evo Volunteers Achieve their Duke of Edinburgh Awards

Since the re-launch of the Evo Sports Volunteer Programme this academic year, Evo has been supporting a number of students, by providing various opportunities for them to volunteer within a sports setting.

Many of the volunteers that take part in the programme do so to help them with collecting service hours for their Duke of Edinburgh or IB International Awards. Even though students are to deliver a set number of hours for their Award, most have exceeded this number and have continued to volunteer and gain further experience regardless.

Over the last week, Evo is proud to celebrate the achievements of 6 individuals from Doha College that have now successfully completed their Silver and Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Awards, as a result of taking part in the Evo Volunteers programme.

James Mwale, Evo Sports Community Manager and Volunteer Coordinator said:

“The work that these individuals have put in at Evo is nothing short of amazing. They work extremely hard with us and have very much become part of the coaching team, due to the numbers of hours they have volunteered. We hope that our support helps these young people to realise their potential and develop not just as future coaches, but as well-rounded young adults.”

“With a number of weeks still left this term we are still taking on more volunteers as a result of people seeing these young role models in action, which is a massive credit to this current group of volunteers, well-done guys, and thank you for all your hard work!”

Akuzike Komakoma, Evo Volunteer and DofE silver award recipient said:

“Evo has helped me achieve my initial goal to improve my communication and confidence, especially during the Easter Holiday camps.”

Lilly Sibley, Evo Volunteer and DofE Bronze Award recipient also said:

“Evo has really helped to build my confidence and leadership skills, it has also given me an opportunity to try out something different.”
